OverviewMurdock Mountain is a small mountain south of its more notable neighbor, Bald Mountain. Mudrock Mountain makes a nice little addition when climbing Bald Mountain or any of the other peaks around this area. Because of the relatively short distance and small elevation gain, this hike is ideal for new hikers. Although the mountain isn't to spectacular, its still provides you with great views and an introduction into the Unita's. The north side of this mountain is very steep (it drops around 500ft, but would still make a nice climb and/or ski descent), however, from any other direction, it is less steep and makes it an easy hike.
The top of Murdock Mountain is really round (hence the name mountain and its hard to tell where the actual high point is. However, there is a large summit cairn that marks what looks like the highpoint on the mountain. The benchmark for this mountain is further down and is not at the high point but is still mark with a cairn.

Getting There View of Murdock from Bald Mountain Pass From Samak-
Head Northeast on Hwy 150 for around 25 miles.
When taking this route to Murdock, there is a turnout a little less then half a mile past the Bald Mountain Trial Head on the right side. This can serve as the trail head. Also, you could hike from the Bald Mountain Trail head if you wanted to do that. There are many routes up this mountain, so there isn't really a right or wrong route. Almost any route from the road around the pass area is going to be less then a two miles round trip.
But once you reach the pass, Murdock Mountain will be the seemingly unnoticeable bulk to the right of Bald Mountain (if you take the give route from Samak).Red TapeOnly a 3$ fee is required for parking at trail heads. Also, roads may not be plowed in the winter. However, check with the ranger station.
CampingThere is plenty of it. All along the highway there are campsites. However, they will fill up fast in the summer. Also, there are plenty of areas around Murdock where you could camp outside of a designated camp site.External LinksUtah Avalanche Center
