Overview

Mazzaspitz 3164m is a mountain in the eastern part of Switzerland, in the canton Grisons (Graubünden). Located in the Rhaetian Alps and the Platta Group. The mountain is in the Avers valley, which is famous for many beautiful ski tours in Spring time. In the south of the mountain, are the village Juf on 2124m! It is the highest village in Switzerland, which is in the whole year inhabited.

In the north of the Mazzaspitz is the famous Piz Platta 3392m located, in the east the Piz Surpare 3078m. Two major transitions are in the vicinity of this mountain, the "Fallenfurgga" and the "Stallerberg". With this mountain pass, are two valleys and regions connected.

Around the mountain, there is no glacier. In this area there are also some beautiful mountain lakes, named "Bandseen" and "Flüeseen". The Mazzaspitz is rarely visited and is a "quiet and lonely" Mountain, he does not belong to the famous summits of the Alps.

Route & Difficulty

Summer route on foot:

Best start in village Juf 2124m. On a hiking trail on goes to the beautiful mountain lake in the southeast of the Mazzaspitz at 2790m.
Then it climbs over the south ridge (some parts of UIAA II) to the summit.

Difficulty: L or T5


Winter/Spring route with ski:

By public transport:

With the RHB-railway from Chur to Tiefencastel. Than with post bus to Savognin and Mulegns
