Overview

Telíca is an active volcano. The latest violent eruption was in 1948, but the volcano has ever since been smoking and grumbling. Has a huge crater: 120 meters deep and 700 meters in diameter. At foot from the volcano is "Hervideros de San Jacinto", there are a dozens of natural boiling water spots. Is the normal route to the volcano behind some little mountains.

This vocano is part of the volcanic chain that runs all the way down and includes the volcanoes in Lake Nicaragua. You will see several volcanoes in line, some smoking and others dormant.

Getting There

From Leon 12km to the north, take a right hand route to Malpaisillo. After 10 minutes is San Jacinto, ask for "HERVIDEROS". There is the park "Hervideros de San Jacinto". park is open 7am - 5PM... Pay attention, unestable ground with many boiling water around, no marks at all, so walk with some guide, normally a lot of kids charge $1 to guide you. Is possible to see the sandy crater of volcano behind a mountain with vegetation, just go direct in the little trail.
