Overview
Black Mountain is located in Cave Creek, Arizona, just north of Scottsdale, near Phoenix. A less visited Phoenix area mountain, this is the place to go when you can't find parking at Camelback or Piestewa Peak. It is just a walk up that takes 1 to 1.5 hours. At the top you'll see great views of the area and the surrounding mountains. It's about an 1100 ft elevation gain and 2.2 miles round trip.
Getting There
The trail head is in a residential area in Cave Creek. Park at the post office or city hall on School House Rd. and Military Rd. (just off Cave Creek Rd). Be careful not to park in the private residential areas. Walk up the dirt road and you'll see signs for the trail head. When you come to a fork, go left (the right path goes through residential areas). It's a easy to follow trail all the way to the top with no difficult areas.
