Turska gora in a S view of the range |
Turska gora (2251m) is a mountain of towers (tura = tower). It is complicated, or even tormented, and the walls and ridges are not often climbed, except maybe for the Szalay-Gerin N ridge.
There are many visible ins and outs to this mountain, and certainly a hundred ways of taking a photo of it.
From the summer hiker´s point of view, Turska Gora is a bump which is part of the traverse of the range. The Kotlici notch between Turska gora and Brana (along a very demanding marked and secured mountain-hiking path) is better known than the mountain itself. Turski Zleb, the famous north-south passage, a couloir between Turska gora and Mala Rinka is also very appreciated by mountain goers.
There is of course a summit post, but the book is more seldom signed than other ones. Please also sign the Climber´s Log on this page!
In case of fog, the Mali Podi grounds (the karstic grounds W of Turska gora, below Skuta and Kranjska Rinka) might become tricky. We then strictly stick to the marcations (or to the cairns, to or from the bivouac).
GETTING THERE
The circle shows the whole of Turska Gora, the thin lines show to the paths (on a pic of a Google map)
N approach: The bus from Celje leaves us off in Solcava, allthough the road continues into the Logarska Dolina valley. At the end of the road, we follow the signs for the Frischaufov dom Hut (Okreselj).
S approach: the simplest way to get to the Kamniska Bistrica trailhead is to take the bus (Ljubljana-Kamnik-Kamniska Bistrica)
From the Kamniska Bistrica trailhead to the lower station of the supply cableway for the Cojzova Koca hut, we follow a marked path and signposts for Grintovec and/or Cojzova Koca, Kokrsko Sedlo (40 min walk, starting along the road to the right of the hut).
It is possible to drive to the lower station along a macadamized road (beware: there is another hut supply cableway, serving the Kamnisko Sedlo hut).
From the lower station of the hut supply cableway, we continue along the dirt road (the marked paths for Grintovec via Cojzova Koca on Kokrsko Sedlo are to the left). As the track splits, we stick to the one on the right and to the Crossing Zmavcarji route.
RED TAPE
Unless expressly signalized (barrier, signpost), and upon your own responsibility, macadamized roads are allowed and visible on maps (these roads are mainly maintained for lumbering and hut cable station access purposes).
Fishing & hunting is regulated.
Wild camping and open fires are not allowed.
The Kamnik-Savinja Alps are part of the Natura 2000 program.
The Logar valley (Logarska dolina) is a Landscape Parc and there is probably a fee for the road along the upper part of the valley, in the summer months during the daytime.
CAMPING
Luce camping, along the Celje to Logarska dolina road.
Ljubljana camping
Kamnik camping
The Kamniska Bistrica trailhead hut is open all year long (except on Monday).
The Frischaufov dom Hut (Okreselj) is open from May to October, and on nice winter weekends.
