Overview Dolgi Hrbet N buttress. photo Vid Pogachnik The summital form of Dolgi Hrbet appears as a long ridge, separated from Struca (2457m) by the Skrbina notch to the E, and linked to Grintovec by the Mlinarsko Sedlo saddle to the W. A very demanding marked and secured mountain-hiking route* follows the summital ridge.
North
One of the Jezersko panoramas may be admired from the roadside, above the flat meadows (and lake!) of the Jezersko village. Dolgi Hrbet steps forward and drops into the valley, forming a buttress which separates two glacial terraces: Ledine to the left (E) and Ravni to the right. There is a mountain hut on both terraces. The cargo cableway lower station for both these huts is at the foot of the Dolgi Hrbet buttress (that's where the summer trailhead is). Officially, the first route on the wall was climbed in 1895. The longest route reaches a height of 1000m. The caracteristic V shaped triangle to the upper left is a part of the Dolgi Hrbet N face which climbers especially favour. Winter ascents are another highlight of the N face.
South
To the south, the Dolgi Hrbet summital crest is to be seen above the karstic grounds called Veliki Podi. Veliki Podi is a wide terrace at an attitude of more than 2000m., limited by the Grintovec E face to the W, and the big Skuta ridge to the E. Many paths criss-cross Veliki Podi. The modest height of the Dolgi Hrbet S face above Veliki Podi is a reason for it hardly being climbed.

* Throughout Slovenia the marked and secured mountain-hiking paths are categorized in three technical grades: mountain path ("planinska pot", red lines on maps), demanding mountain path ("zahtevna planinska pot", interrupted red lines on maps), very demanding mountain path ("zelo zahtevna planinska pot", dotted lines on maps).

The W start of the marked and secured ridge route is the Mlinarsko Sedlo saddle.
Marked and secured mountain-hiking routes lead to Mlinarsko Sedlo from the S (across Veliki Podi, the karstic grounds to the S of Dolgi Hrbet), from the W (descending from Grintovec), and from the N (Ceska Koca hut).
The E start of a ridge traverse is the notch Skrbina which we attain along marked and secured paths from the E (descending from Skuta via Struca), or from the S (across Veliki Podi).
