Overview

Geographical Classification: Alps - Eastern Part > Riesenferner Group > Hochflachkofel / Cima di Pianalto
Hochflachkofel / Cima di PianaltoThe Hochflachkofel / Cima Pianalto (3097 m)

Hochflachkofel / Cima di Pianalto is relative unknown summit in the Riesenferner Group. The summit's name refers to the wide summitridge wich can be easily recognised from Östlichen Rieserferner. The mountain is surrounded by the more famous Magerstein (West) and Wildgall and Hochgall (East). Especially the Wildgall on it's east-side is pretty impressive, unfortunatly it has no page on SP.

The mountain is probably vistited more in winter than in summer. This because of the fact that you can ski from the summit almost all the way to the Kasseler Huette. In summer the mountain is rather easy and a long walk. Still the summit is worth visiting because of it's great views. The Kasseler Hütte is the common starting point and a true cosy mountain hut.

Routes

Map Hochflachkofel / Cima di PianaltoMap of the ascent of Hochflachkofel

In summer: From the Kasseler hut slightly left on a good track (well marked) in direction of the upper left limit of the Westlichen Riesenferner. You pass the Tristennockl soon. Instead of going to the Magerstein follow the path to the Antholzer Scharte. Just before arriving there turn left on the östlichen Riesenferner. Traverse on the relative flat glacier below the summit of Hochflachkofel and reach a saddle between the Wildgall and Hochflachkofel. Then on the W slopes to the summit of Hochflachkofel, 3097 m.

Starting point: Kasseler Hütte (2274 m)
Highest point: summit of Hochflachkofel (3097 m)
Alpine grade: L (leicht)
Height gain: 820 m
Time: from the hut to the summit about 3 hours.

In winter: In Winter the ascent is pretty much the same. The descent is slightly different. In order to enjoy a long descent you can ski all the way down on the östlichen Riesenferner and further down the valley untill about 2300 m. Here you'll have to make a short climb towards the track you'll used in ascent, just above the Kasseler Hütte.

Highest point: summit of Hochflachkofel (3097 m)
Skitour grade: WS
Height gain: 820 m

Children

Children refers to the set of objects that logically fall under a given object. For example, the Aconcagua mountain page is a child of the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits.' The Aconcagua mountain itself has many routes, photos, and trip reports as children.
