In winter and early spring a nice but not overcrowded mountain in the Goldberg Group (the higher mountains around Kolm Saigurn like Hoher Sonnblick and/or Hocharn are more popular).

Ascent

Herzog Ernst can be climbed from Kolm Saigurn (Rauris Valley) either directly from the parking lot Lenzanger or from Kolm Saigurn via Durchgangalm - Filzenalm follow the ridge to Seekopf - continue to Kolmkarspitz.

Ski Descent (Variant)

From the summit of Kolmkarspitz climb some meters down (in a southeastward direction) continue the ski descent via Kolmkar - Kolmkarscharte back to Durchgangalm.

Red Tape

A part of the ascent from Kolm Saigurn is located within the Hohe Tauern National Park. No fees accept toll roads to Kolm Saigurn or Sportgastein. Parking is only allowed on the Lenzanger parking lot (Lat. 47.0817, Lon. 12.985 1552 m)

When To Climb

The mountain can be climbed nearly all over the year.
For ski touring the best months are December to May - be aware of avalange danger.

In summer I recommend the months July to September/October.
