Overview

Kogel's summit is at the level of Veliki Podi (2100m), the karstic grounds below the Skuta S face, and one hardly even notices the knob when walking by. The closeby bivouac Pavel Kemperl below Grintovec is probably better known than Kogel's summit.

From the Kamniska Bistrica trailhead, one cannot miss admiring its attractive form. This vertical (south oriented) wall is situated less than 2 hours above the Kamniska Bistrica trailhead and it is a very popular climbing destination in the range. In the summer months it might be a little too hot, allthough some people really like it that way.

Generations of talented climbers have signed around 30 routes in this wall.
The (approx) lines on the photo show three big classics.
Right to left:
- Virens, IV/III, 160m (A.Smid, V.Virens, 1937)
- Zupan, V+, 220m (K. Semrov, F.Zupan, 1950)
- Kamniska, VII (VI, A0), 250m (P.Simenc, T.Skarja, 1962)

Getting There

Approach:
The Crossing Gamsov Skret unmarked path leads to the foot of the wall.

Red Tape

General range red tape
The hotter it gets, the more attention should be paid to the snakes that live in the screefield below the wall.
Just stick to the tread path!

Camping

Camping lots around the range.
One may bivouac on the cave ledge at the foot of the wall.
