Overview

"Second Kaweah" (which has apparently also been called "Gray Kaweah" and "False Kaweah") is a prominent peak on the ridge leading northwest from Mt. Kaweah, and a class 2 traverse from the latter is the obvious route to its summit. "Second Kaweah" is separated from Red Kaweah and Black Kaweah by a serrated ridge known as the Pinnacles.

Getting There

There is an excellent treatment of the approach on the Mt. Kaweah page.

I highly recommend R. J. Secor's The High Sierra, Peaks Passes & Trails (now in its third edition). This is the definitive climbing guide to the Sierra and was the source for many of the details on my SummitPost pages.

Red Tape

Like most areas in the Sierra, you'll need a Wilderness Permit for overnight travel, and the Kaweahs are too far in for most mortals to day hike. Again, see the Mt. Kaweah page for more details.

Camping

Again, please see the Mt. Kaweah page for information about camping.
