The famous Third Flatiron... [ Sizes: Orig | Small | Thumb ]
The famous Third Flatiron...
The famous Third Flatiron from the approach trail. The east face route here has been described as "the best beginner climb in the solar system". I'm surprised that a photo like this hasn't appeared on SP before... by Eric Burgh Sept 2003.

I have never seen the Flatirons. What
about when a layer of ice covers a
flatiron, such as happens in winter.
Does it still attract climbers?

Thanks, though it's not my photo. Occasionally there are short mixed routes that open up, but generally they don't hold snow or ice all that well. Last year was particularly snowy and someone actually skied the 3rd. Everyone was pretty impressed.
