This is believed to be the site of a long-vanished stratovolcano much like Glacier Peak, which is visible on the horizon. This ancient volcano was in its heyday 25-35 million years ago. Breccia Peak/Round Lake is believed to be the old volcanic plug for this volcano. In comparison, Glacier Peak is no more than a million years old.
