The view ESE from the summit...
The view ESE from the summit on Oct 25, 2003. In the foreground is Breccia Peak, which surrounds Round Lake in the cirque at right. This is believed to be the site of a long-vanished stratovolcano much like Glacier Peak, which is visible on the horizon. This ancient volcano was in its heyday 25-35 million years ago. Breccia Peak/Round Lake is believed to be the old volcanic plug for this volcano. In comparison, Glacier Peak is no more than a million years old.
