Andrews Glacier is between Taylor Peak to the south (left) and Otis Peak to the north (right). This picture, taken from above The Loch, shows the slopes leading to Andrews Tarn, which is at the foot of the glacier. The peak on the left is not Taylor, but part of the ridge that projects from the Continental Divide directly north of Taylor Peak, and which includes the Cathedral Spires. Rocky Mountain National Park. March 2005.

Voted 10/10 | This is a beauty! I'm very jelous that you were just there and I'm stuck in my cubical here. I will have to get out to RMNP before summer sometime. Run into any really deep snow? | | Posted Mar 22, 2005 2:23 pm |

Hasn't voted | Thanks! I'm glad you liked the picture. The snow was deep only in spots, and there was about a foot of fresh snow in the part of the route shown in the photograph. Much less in the lower part and on the Divide. | | Posted Mar 22, 2005 6:46 pm |

Voted 10/10 | for your (first) PotW!
Is it a single shot or are they two vertical images stitched? | | Posted Mar 23, 2005 5:26 am |

Hasn't voted | Thanks! I'm obviously flattered, considering that there were excellent pictures (e.g., Gran Sasso, Cerro Torre, andChopicalqui) that were deserving of recognition. As to your question, this is a single shot, taken at about 28mm of focal length. | | Posted Mar 23, 2005 8:58 am |

Hasn't voted | Hey Brenta nice shot!! I was in there a few weeks ago looking for some ice flows to climb and found 2 snow caves just below the Loch. Where they still there? It looked like an awsome place for a winter camp. I'll be back in Colorado the 1st 2 weeks of June. Hoping to do Longs while there! | | Posted Mar 23, 2005 8:18 pm |

Hasn't voted | I don't think we saw any snow caves around the Loch, but we just followed the packed trail to the lake. Let's hope for good weather in June, though I have some travel lined up for the first half of the month. | | Posted Mar 23, 2005 9:20 pm |

Voted 10/10 | Congrats on Photo of the Week! Great shot indeed! It was a fun trip; thanks for introducing me to this beautiful place! | | Posted Mar 24, 2005 12:19 am |

Hasn't voted | Thanks! With the light constantly changing, this was certainly a lucky shot. BTW, in the unscaled version one can see our tracks all the way from Andrews Tarn. It was indeed a fun trip in an area to which I return often, but of which I never grow tired. | | Posted Mar 24, 2005 12:45 am |

Hasn't voted | Thanks, Georg! Brad told the rest of us of your plan to do the Glacier Gorge Arc traverse. I'm definitely not up to that one, but I hope we'll have a chance soon for another, tamer, hike together. | | Posted Mar 24, 2005 1:53 pm |

Hasn't voted | Wow, looks like you got some new snow!
I had to look clopsely at this one. At first glance it looks like the view up Garnet Canyon in the Tetons.
Awesome photo!
Film or digi?
Cheers
