The view S from...
The view S from Spider-Formidable col on the Stage 2 of the Ptarmigan Traverse is dominated by the Le Conte Glacier on the N slopes of Old Guard and Sentinel Peaks. (They're really two summits of one mountain.) Le Conte Mountain is the closer summit near this photo's right edge.

Stage 2 of the traverse (as described here) ends at Yang Yang Lakes, on the bench catching the last sunlight on the otherwise shaded slope at the picture's right.

Stage 3 begins with a trudge W to the top of the ridge (the Cascade Crest), then S to just under Le Conte Mtn. to begin a long, descending traverse under the cliffs of innumerable unnamed peaks, then up the Le Conte Glacier to pass through the col at 7300 feet, made obvious here by the sudden end of the shadows.
