Trail to Gates

Is it fairly obvious when to take off from the trail through Chasm Meadows or does it really matter as long as you're headed in the general direction? Are the Gates easy to find from the Chasm Meadows? Seems like an exciting scramble especially along the knife edge. I've never been up Meeker, but this appears to be the most exciting route. More so than the Loft?

Re: Trail to Gates

I thought it was pretty easy to identify, but YRMV.

I can't compare to the Loft because I've never done it. That route sounds fun, as well, and someday I plan to go back to do it.

All the excitement of the Iron Gates route is focused on the knife edge. That and the scenery. The Loft route sounds interesting in its own right with its narrow ramps and more difficult routefinding, so that's why I want to go back for it.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of them!

Re: Trail to Gates

Hey. Did the Loft this summer in combining Meeker and Longs. Quite easy in finding the route to the Loft and the short trek up to Meeker's summit. Highly recommend it. Backside of Longs was troublesome. Went way too low, but eventually made it back on route below the Palisades and on up to the Homestretch. Would really like to know where the correct route is from Loft to Clarks Arrow. We saw the arrow, but only after being totally lost and losing considerable elevation
