Crime

I don't know Mathias how Germans feel about it but to put monstrous building like this one on highest summit of the country is a crime for me. Train, two major cable cars...it's too much for one peak. Alps are over civilized. I fear mans greed to exploit beauties of the nature for profit will ultimately lead us the same way. I guess when you are born in such environment it is easier to handle it but when you live through transformation and witness beauty being destroyed is more painful.

Re: Crime

I don't see this that negative. The alps are a populated – and popular – area. Tourists need their destination and tourism is the major income factor. In case of Zugspitze the first cablecar / railway has been constructed in the 1920ies or so. You cannot draw back time. But now we have more than enough beton in the mountains: It is more important to stop – or at least minimize – further exploration than to complain about the status quo. Personally I knew what would be awaiting me on the summit and I enjoyed the trip very much. Probably there is less mystic about Zugspitze in Germany than there is about Triglav in Slovenia.

BTW – there are _three_ cablecars up there !

Re: Crime

Sasa, these buildings are rather cute and have long tradition. Your comment would fit better to this picture
