Approach

See the main page for directions to the starting point at Cottonwood Campground.

Route Description

Travel from campsite #17 in loop B of Cottonwood Campground. There is a trail that starts at this campsite. Follow the trail for 1.5 miles. Then head east toward Eagle Peak. Navigate through gullies and boulder heading toward a deep ravine in the mountain. (Heading toward the ravine before traveling down the trail 1.5 miles will make the hike more difficult.) Scramble up to the center of the ravine where a rocky wash/gully provides for easy hiking. Follow the gully to a notch at 5,400 feet elevation. From the notch hike ESE dropping about 150 feet in 0.3 miles to where you pick up the summit ridge and follow it to the summit.

Essential Gear

Sturdy shoes and plenty of water are needed, but no technical gear.
