Route Description

Head up the southwest canyon of Black Butte. Stay in the main canyon until the summit ridge. There are 3 dry waterfalls in the canyon that are fun to climb up and not difficult, but if you want to avoid them you can go around them. Head to the summit ridge just left (NE) of the summit and turn right and walk to the summit once you get on the ridge.

From the 4WD parking spot: 1600 feet gain and 3 miles round-trip.

From the 2WD parking spot: 1800 feet gain and 6.6 miles round-trip.

Time 2 to 5 hours depending on where you park and your speed.

Essential Gear

No technical gear needed. Bring plenty of water and sticky shoes are helpful.
