The first time I saw Mt. Humphreys, it had a profound effect. Much like El Capitan or Half Dome, it emanates a powerful presence in form and structure. It's truly one of natures amazing monuments. I was Twenty, maybe twenty-one years young; somewhere around that time period. The plan was to take the now well known loop(i.e. Up Lamark Cole Pass, down through Evolution Valley, up the Piute Canyon and back over Piute Pass). while heading up Piute Canyon, I set up camp by the river fed by the tributaries from the lakes above(i.e. Desolation, Golden Trout, Muriel, etc. ...). I decided to do a little exploration and bushwhacked up toward Lower Golden Trout Lake, up from Packsaddle Lake. As I came up over the horizon, Lower Golden Trout Lake at about 11:00 to my left, I turned around looking in the South Westerly direction to lock in my internal GPS. I swung back and around, there it was. Mt. Humphreys hit me hard. For a minute or two I was stunned by it absolute beauty and power(to live forever in an instant). This image is a view from up close. Taken on a later trip.
