At least we hiked the last 1000 feet.  Sucess!

Drove up to Summerhaven and hiked a couple miles to the summit. Better than driving the whole way I guess.

scenic drive  Sucess!

Driving through the saguaro forest near the bottom was the highlight. Drove nearly to the top and then bushwhacked a little along the barbed wire fence surrounding the observatories until I found the summit benchmark. Nothing too exciting- but pleasant late October weather

Great time to visit is the fall

We went from sweltering hot at the base to nice fall colours at the summit. Did a portion of Soldier's trail and camped on the mountain

Down a bit and back up  Sucess!

We did a loop, starting at the summit. Went out the Lemmon Rock Trail to the Wilderness of Rock Trail and came back the Mt. Lemmon Trail. Great views and a great hike.

Sutherland Trail  Sucess!

I climbed Mount Lemmon from Catalina State Park via the Sutherland and Mount Lemmon Trails. The trail disappeared in heavy brush and wildfire debris on a rocky ridgeline at about 7400-7600 ft. and I had to follow the route by rock cairns and old flagging tape. I lost the route at one point, but soon regained it on the ridge crest. I rarely hike a new route without a map, but had none this time and really missed it.

Nice Area!  Sucess!

I had been on the Mount Lemmon Highway once before, but only to Rose Canyon Lake. It was nice to go back, after already doing a hike of Wasson Peak and Amole Peak earlier in the morning, and especially considering the *entire* Mount Lemmon Highway was snow-free. You could not hope for much better in regard of conditions, for late January above 8000' elevation. I parked near the ski area, and hiked up the road from there. When I reached the gated observatory, I followed the fenceline to the "HP" location(s).

super cold and windy  Sucess!

Drove up to the ski area and climbed up the road after the sun had already set. Stomped around in the snow for awhile and then headed back. Nice views of Tucson at night from the road.

Nice foray for a day.  Sucess!

Climbed up the Marshall Gulch and Aspen Trails, and ducked inside the fence to tag the true summit. A guy working at the observatory saw me and kindly pointed me to the very highest point. Snow on north-facing slopes above 7,500 feet and 3-4 inches on the very top itself. A good little workout!

snow tubing  Sucess!

OK, we drove up with Barb and Dan, but going snow tubing near the summit was a lot of fun! Spectacular island in the sky escape from the desert below. Views along the highway up were awesome.

Enjoyed the views  Sucess!

Drove the road all the way up past the ski resort than wandered around the summit area. Great views on the backside of Samaniego Peak.

Like Maine in Feb.  Sucess!

In town for work and drove up in February. The snow and Juncos and conifers appear to be straight from Maine. The sunset and views of the town in the dark are splendid. Saw some sort of big weasel run across the road, but couldn't ID it in the dark.

Needs more snow  Sucess!

Temps were in the 50s I'd guess at the summit. The ski valley was operational but the snow was crud. Snow lingered on shaded slopes, but was not deep enough to warrant any flotation. Hiked from road while wife was doing business in Tucson. Good way to kill a few hours. Vistas from top were more impressive than I'd hoped. Needed a bigger map to be able to know what everything was from up there.

Catalina State Park to Mt. Lemmon  Sucess!

Tough, long hike from bottom to top, but well worth it. Rains from the days before left the plants along the trail to Romero Pass wet and soaked us as we fought the brush to gain Romero Pass. Creeks were running strong along the way. From there, the views opened up as the hike got steeper on the Mt. Lemmon Trail. Took the Wilderness of Rocks Trail to just beneath the summit, then hiked up to Lemmon Rock Lookout and over to the summit. Fresh snow coated the ground and frosted the trees. Hiked to the summit, then down the road to the ski area, trying not to slip on the icy road.

First Multi-Pitch Climb  Sucess!

This is where I completed my first multi-pith climb. Can't remember the route name, but I will say it got me hooked. Great views of Tucson.
