Re: Perfect dayPerfect day indeed! No way to beat it on the Olympic Peninsula in January. It even felt balmy at 3700+ feet on the summit. And the view of the Olympics was jaw-dropping. Wish you'd been there! -Bob

Re: ?I Googled this but didn't find what I was looking for. I did see, however, that Hurricane Ridge, which is just over 5,000 feet, receives an average of about 400 inches of snowfall per year. So in the higher mountains the number would have to be a good deal greater because of the relatively warm air that comes off the ocean and creates all that precipitation, which is over 140 inches per year in some places. It is useful to observe that the Blue Glacier, which flows down the north slopes of Olympus, reaches down to an elevation of around 5000 feet, providing evidence of the enormous quantities of snow that fall at the higher elevations. Interesting question.
