Mt Shasta Tragedy - Day 2 Winds

March 27, 2010 - Observed wind directions and estimated speeds based on anemometer readings on route and comparing wind-blown snow on route to the surrounding ridges. Wind estimates on the summit are based on later forecasted windspeeds and descriptions of high wind effects. The Whitney Glacier often acts as a wind tunnel for winds blowing from the north, south, or west, so the moderate winds encountered as we entered the basin with the glacier was expected.
