Drive up into the Tumbling Creek WMA. At the office take a left and follow the road to the gate labeled "MUCK".
From the WMA park at the MUCK gate. Proceed up the jeep road paralleling Dry Creek and after a few hundred yards take a right onto a jeep road. Contour over to Red Creek and up to Mutters Gap. At the gap take a left and proceed south on ridgeline to summit (no trail). This is a long trip (10+ miles RT). This is a VERY difficult hike. (The topozone link is on the jeep road between the MUCK gate(almost) and Mutters Gap.)
map (USGS Saltville and Elk Garden Va quads), compass/gps, food and water, excellent cross country skills, a strong will.
If you have information about this route that doesn't pertain to any of the other sections, please add it here. This is a route for a strong hiker and cross country hiker. Other trip report on different routes, to this summit, can be found www.cohp.org
"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."
