Needle Rock, Delta County, Colorado

Easiest known route is the N ridge 5.7. The summit register says there is a NE gully route that goes at 5.2R, but I don't know anything about it. There is also the SW arete/face, which reputedly goes as 4 or 5 pitches of 5.11+ or 5.12.

Re: How big?

Thanks but I meant not from sea level but from the base of the ~vertical portion seen in photo?

Re: How big?

I've read a few things from the summit register - either 4-5 pitches, and as a vertical line, almost 800' on this (photo) side.

Jeremy

I swear I read somewhere that Dwight Sunwall climbed this one via a low fifth class route on the other side of the steep face shown in the pic. I could be wrong.

Dwight

Kane - spoke to Dwight pre- and post-climb. Turns out he started up the same place we went up (per my route photo), but at the point where it goes from 4th to 5.+, decided not to die. He made the right call. Downclimbing shattered basalt isn't much fun.

North face is 5.7, 130' pitch. East gully 5.2R 1+ pitch. SW Arete 4-5 pitches, 5.11 or 5.12.
