The intent of this page is to bring attention to new features to the attention of SummitPost users. Additionally a "road map" of sorts will be posted and updated here with forthcoming new features or modifications to SummitPost. The list of forthcoming features is not in any particular order.Newly implemented features and upgrades12-23-2010 - SP ChatSummitPost now provides members a way to interact and communicate in real time. Across the bottom of the browser window users should now see a chat bar. If the bar is missing, click on the small gray box with an arrow in it in the lower right-hand corner to fire up the chat client.
12-16-2010 - "Suggested mountains/routes" and "People who climb the same things"The People who climb the same things suggestion score represents the number of climber's log entries shared by a given user and a suggested user. The mountains/routes that are climbed most among this group of users are displayed as Mountain/Route Suggestions. You can increase the quality of your suggestions by signing more climber's logs. Links to suggestions can be found on user profile pages at the bottom of the green profile information boxes. See the below image:
11-11-2010 - Email notification of Private Messages and Comments to your pagesWhenever you receive a private message or another user comments on one of your pages, you will receive immediate email notification. This feature is a user preference that is enabled by default. If you wish to opt out of receiving email notifications for either private messages or comments or both, simply update your profile settings. 10-18-2010 - GPX file upload and mapping feature for Route and Trip Report pagesSummitPost users now have the ability to upload GPX files taken from GPS devices to Route and Trip Report pages on SummitPost. Here are a few examples of the feature in action:
As you can see, the route is mapped on a Google Maps terrain map and an elevation profile of the route is also displayed below the map. Users have the ability to change the units from miles and feet to metric (kilometers and meters) by clicking on the "Change to Metric" link in the left sidebar of the page. If a route or trip report page has a GPX file uploaded, you will find the link to view the route on a map in the header section of the page that displays all of the other relevant page data:
An additional link to view the route on a map can be found in the left sidebar under "GEOGRAPHY" -> "View Route on Map". Additionally, users may download the GPX file for their own use. The link to download the GPX file is also in the header section of the page right next to the link to view the route on a map:
If you have a GPX file for a route page that you do not own and you'd like to submit it, please contact the page owner first. If you receive no response from the page owner, try sending a private message to the elves and ask them to help you. It is possible to upload the GPX files as attachments to forum posts, so feel free to start a thread in the Site Feedback Forum, upload the GPX file to the post and wait for an elf to submit it to the route page. 9-23-2010 - Forum upgradeThe forum software was given a long overdue upgrade to the most recent version of phpBB. With the upgrade, there are a few new features such as the "Thanks" button, the ability to attach files and photos to posts, the ability to embed YouTube and Vimeo videos, and the ability to quickly quote other users. What's to come? This list isn't comprehensive and there is no time table for anything on this list. Furthermore, if something appears on this list, there is no guarantee that it will actually be completed. Having said all of that, here is a list of forthcoming new features:
