North Chute Classic!

North Chute Classic!

Along the South Willow Trail in Utah's Stansbury Mountains, one sees this colouir or chute. It lies just north of Deseret Peak's summit, and has remained popular with X-country skiers in Spring. Please be aware of early Spring avalanches. I saw one coming down in this area back in the 1980s. The snow usually stays in the colouir until the middle of July. Scanned from 35mm photo. Cool Photo

This couloir is also known as the North Chute of Deseret Peak. It looks like a fun route to climb when filled with snow. In summer, it's a fast descent down talus and scree. Here is a more recent Photo taken over 30 years later.

Re: Cool Photo

Yes, it really fills up with snow!
I've never seen a person actually
(successfully) ski down it, yet.
I suppose there are people skillful
enough to do it. Seems like it would
be a thrilling ride! Kind of like the
roller coaster at Lagoon in Farmington.

As long as you don't meet up with a tree!
