North Face  Sucess!

Climbed it in near perfect weather with esugi. There was a line up of 6 or so parties on or waiting for the NE Buttress, but this route had no one. A little thin for my liking on the first pitch, but it was pretty easy after that. Fun climb and you really can't beat the accessibility for a bit of alpine ice.

North Face  Sucess!

Made pretty easy ascent of NF in mostly snow conditions. Was hoping for more ice but only spots on the first pitch. Made the route in 3 pitches and we were feeling pretty good about it until a guy (Jens from CC.com) came soloing up the route AFTER already soloing the NE Buttress. He climbed the route in mere 30 minutes (?). He put us to shame. Great descent on otherwise great outing.

Re: North Face

Glad to hear of your success. This year Chair Peak developed a very thick and prominent crust that made for reasonable ice climbing for the first couple people climbing it, but was destroyed after a little bit of traffic leaving only the underlying snow for those coming afterward. On the NE Butress this winter I experienced this crust as mostly ice, but later on the N Face the crust had been totally beat up, leaving only snow. This peak is a really fun winter playground, and I'm sure Jens K would agree.
