Illampu attempt
Climbed with AlexeyD. Like he says, rapped down from the saddle but it was possible to downclimb for better climbers. It was just AlexeyD (who happens to be my son) and me out there so we tried to be safe.

Attempt
Axe and I started from the 16,700 ft camp and made it to half a pitch below the top of the wall before altitude and time got to us. We rapped 5 x 60m leaving 5 pickets. The last two raps were with rockfall whizzing past us. A great experience with both the climb and the 6 day trek. Better altitude conditioning would of helped us. (I blame russki82 for attempting this climb because of his excellent mountain and route pages--thanks!)

Only climbed the face up to the saddle due to late start. Rapped the entire face, which took 5 pickets. Even so, it's one hell of a day with the walk-out into Aguas Calientes.
