From the 91 freeway heading eastbound from Orange County, exit Coal Canyon Road and make a left (South) at the stop sign. From here continue past the hard hat section of the cement factory and make a left up the dirt road. From here park in the parking on the left hand side. From the parking lot, walk in a southeast direction where a prominent ridge begins. This is where the trailhead is located.
Follow the ridge until you reach the highest hill in the vicinity. From this point go East to reach Main Divide Road. This is the bushwacking section of the trail as you climb a steep hill towards the road. Upon reaching Main Divide road make a left (south) and continue until the summit is reached. The most spectacular viewpoint on this trail is when the west ridge of Sierra Peak is reached. At this point you will be given a wonderful view of Black Star Canyon and neighboring Pleasants Peak, alongside with the Main Divide of the Santa Ana Mountains. Continue in a east bound direction until the summit is reached.
Hiking boots, water, some snacks and last but not least a camera.
If you have information about this route that doesn't pertain to any of the other sections, please add it here.
