notch north of Ptarmigan Tunnel

The broad, distinct notch that serves as a guiding point to attaining the goat trail to Redgap Pass is clearly visible in the center of the ridgetop. Well below the notch and slightly to the right, take note of two small snow patches - the spectacular park service trail to Elizabeth Lake is visible as it traverses a steep rock face just below. It is at this point where the trail veers sharply to the west - those looking to access the goat trail should begin scrambling uphill on various scree ledges and game trails. From here, it's no more than an hour to the notch. Photo taken from the north side of Ptarmigan Tunnel. Please click here for a route diagram. July 19, 2010
