Re: Bravo Eric,

Tante grazie Roberto! :-) I had hoped so much to visit the Pennine Alps this summer, and just these last days turned out to be my lucky moment - two fantastic days within a period of bad weather!
Cheers,
Eric

Congrats....

Congrats on POTD...it is about time you made the front page again. Happy Trails out there.

Re: Congrats....

Thanks so much, Troy...making POTD is just not as easy as that! Take for instance this picture of mine that I posted recently - one that almost immediately got a lot of acclaim on Flickr, by the way! - now, after nearly two weeks, it has 23 votes, yes. If at least 18 of those who voted had hit upon the picture and voted on the same day I posted it, it would have very likely made POTD. This is just to give you an example...But I must say, I'm not so avid any more about obtaining POTDs and POTWs (so far, I have only made 1 of those!)...time and observations have made it clear to me that that is not an ultimate criteria as to quality...
Cheers,
Eric

Re: Congrats....

Hey this is Trevor who talks to you Eric....Troys just the photography model. And I know what you mean by POTD is not just as ez as that!!!! POTD has become more like a popularity contest and I know that my pics are not worthy these days...but lots of well deserving people are being shoved aside for the more popular folks on this website. Dont get me wrong.....Marc, Afzal ect....post the best of the best here on SP but I get tired of trying when these guys get the front page. As I said to a fellow SP'er...you have to give up your 1st born to get POTD and sell your soul to the devil to get POTW. Thanks for posting this picture here and hope to see your work make the front page more often. Happy Trails
-Trevor-

Re: Congrats....

Sorry for interjecting, but my sentiments
exactly ... though I ALWAYS appreciate the information.

Hey Trevor, I was looking up at Deseret Peak
yesterday, specifically at the Twin Couloirs
coming (down) off the east side.

Can't believe that your brother actually
skied down that thing. Please give Troy
my regards, and BEST of luck to you ALL ..

Re: Congrats....

If I created a poem for a picture that's
already a poem, a chemical reation would
remove all traces of rhyme and reason ...

Better just to call it a realistic dream ..

wonderful...

...i love the sliver of morning light on the snowy face.
I can imagine how fast it got bigger, and brighter, until it was day.
Those are among the best moments, when time seems to be suspended by aesthetics

Re: wonderful...

Thanks, Gabriele! Yes, it really was exactly as you described, you couldn't have hit it more precisely! These moments in nature are something I know exactly I'll never, ever get tired of, as long as I live!
Many greetings,
Eric

Great Job Eric!

Second POTW i guess? Or maybe third?
A great one, unquestionable, period.
Best wishes my friend!

Re: Great Job Eric!

Dear Paulo, just now, at midnight (European time, of course...), after a busy day here in South Tyrol (no mountain hikes this time, I'm afraid - I'm giving two concerts together with a singer!), I discovered an unusual number of new comments for one day...I thought, Gee, that's odd...then I saw what you wrote...and thought, ah no, that can't be possible...well, let's have a look on the front page all the same (all with my iPhone; I don't have any computer here at the moment) - and now I know. It's my second POTW, Paulo - the first one was "View from the Untersberg to the Dachstein in the east" in February 2010! What I wrote above to Trevor (TyeDyeTwins) still counts, but nevertheless, I can't help feeling this moment as a really special one!
Thanks so much for all of your kind words!
Cheers, and in friendship as well,
Eric

Re: Great Shot!

Thanks for your comment! It must be a fantastic goal for mountaineers, also for extreme ones, considering that unrelentlessly steep and smooth ice wall! Peaks of that dimension are technically way beyond what I can hope to reach, but for those who are apt to it, it must be quite a magnificent tour! At least so much I know: when heading for the summit via Wellenkuppe and the north ridge, there is a key passage known as the "Gendarme". That's known to be a very tricky and exposed passage. There's a photo in my Grand Mountet album for which I used zoom upon the Wellenkuppe-Obergabelhorn ridge and in which you can clearly see this obstacle.
Cheers,
Eric

Excellent !

I might not be skilled enough to climb Obergabelhorn, but your picture makes me want to at least look upon it someday.
