| Hiked with Rafiki up this gently sloped mountain for my 8th state high point. In the last final yards to the summit we encountered incredibly ferocious winds, at least 80 mph. The wind chill made it feel like it was 20 below. | ||

| Blissful walk past huge aspen and a spectacular view. First high mountain I ever summitted. | ||

| Me, Kris, Bethany and Brian made an attempt to camp on the summit. However, due to some late classes, we started at 5:30pm and ended up camping on the saddle between Humphreys and Agassiz Peak. It was very very cold, but it was warm in the tent and sleeping bags. Woke up to a frozen camelbak and water bottles. Great sunrise! | ||

| Had camped in Painted Desert NP, so only got to the trailhead at the ski valley at 1.30 pm. A lot of people on the mountain, I was the last one to summit. Extremely windy at the top. Great day on Humphreys! | ||

| Windy and cold, but a nice hike. It was a bit hazy, but there was still a decent view of the north rim. | ||

| We left at 2:00 a.m. and reached the summit in time to see the sunrise. It was a great view and nobody was there! On the way down we passed 75+ people. I recommend the early start... | ||

| On the drive in there was a herd of about 50 elk, just off the highway. Left the Humphrey's Peak trail head at 5:45 AM and was on the summit by 8:15. Visibility was probably 100 miles with cool temperatures and light winds. I enjoyed sharing the top with Dawn and dog Junior before having 30 minutes of solo time for contemplation of the amazing scenery. On the way back down I counted 130 people and 11 dogs ascending. One more reason besides lightning avoidance to get an early start! | ||

| My son's first time above 10,000 feet. A pleasant day, until thunder kicked in around 10:00 a.m. We hoofed it down and got into our car just seconds after we started getting pelted by hail. | ||

| My 10yo son and I hiked this, his first of 3 state highpoints in 6 days (also NM and CO). We got to the saddle and had to descend and wait out some threatening thunderclouds. Then we went back up and bagged that peak. | ||

| It's poor judgement to climb a mountain in the late afternoon with dead batteries in ones headlamp. Joe fortunately had a working lamp but I was still stumbling most of the way down. The moon and the stars were obscured by the towering pines. By the way... the sunset from the peak was spec-freezing-tacular! | ||

| Dartmouth Hiker | 2nd time from PHX ![]() Date Climbed: Jul 5, 2009 | |
| Climbed again with my mother, this time we both summitted. Cool-to-warm temps, nicely breezy, partly cloudy and hazy all day but no t-storms ever developed. Dealt with the altitude a bit better this time, though I still had a headache on the way down. Seeing a few patches of snow on the upper reaches of Humphreys and Agassiz really cheered me up! | ||

| Left Flagstaff at 5:00 AM- just early enough to beat the crowds. Cool and windy, but plenty of places to bask in the sun. Lots of lightning scars visible on the summit. | ||

| Did this one with Penny and her young son Joe. It was the first time I'd met Joe, and he wasn't too sure about me. We didn't get a particularly early start, and on the long hike up, Joe got increasingly grouchygrumbly. I think i was holding out for reaching the saddle and camping there--he wanted to stop...anywhere. It was cold and twilight by the time we reached the saddle. I immediately got the tent set up and the bags in, then fired up the stove. I wasn't paying much attention to what Joe was doing. I got Penny some hot drink and then finally turned to find Joe. There he was, tending an already burning campfire that he had built himself with no input from either Penny or me. Impressive kid, and I must have expressed that thought to him. After that he warmed up to me. Next day we did the peak and no grousing or grumbling was heard from any quarter. A beautiful peak! Great views from the summit. Hey Joe...if you're out there...Happy Trails! | ||
