| Took my muthah and sistah up the Auto Road in the cah. The Muthah and the Sistah would not get out of the cah to hike up the last 100 ft to the summit, I took the liberty to get out of the cah and stand on the summit. | ||

| Tuckerman's was closed. We made it up Lions Head, but conditions were bad towards the top, and so was visibility, so we had to find our own way, straight up the rocks, with 75 MPH winds, and -4 degrees windchill. They told us to go right to the shelter in the summit area, but I summited anyway. | ||

| I've climbed this peak probably a dozen times at this point starting out as a sprout. Always spectacular, sometimes spectacularly bad. | ||

| Magnificent day for a climb. Summit Conditions at 6:00 AM: 11 degrees, 40 mph winds, 110 miles visibility. Winds were non-existent early, even above tree line and around Lion Head. Not until above alpine gardens did winds pick up. | ||

| crag | Route Climbed: Tuckerman's Ravine Date Climbed: February 12, 1997 ![]() | |
| Bagged this peak many times via Jewell, Boott Spur, and as part of a traverse up the Jefferson's Caps Ridge, over Clay, Washington, Monroe, and down the Ammonusic Ravine. The worst part about that one is walking back up the road to the Caps trailhead. The most fun was on February 12, 1997, up and down Tuckerman's. Air temp in Pinkham notch was about 15F and the winds were pretty calm. Snow conditions were excellent for hiking, no snowshoes needed on the lower part of the mountain, thin crunchy rime and hoar up on the summit dome (no crampons needed). Fun! | ||

| This was my first trip to the White Mountains and definately won't be my last. I took the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail to the Lake of Clouds hut and then climbed Mount Monroe as well. Then I took the Crawford Path to the summit. The views were more than undescribable. It was a wonderful day for a hike and we had some fun on the scrambling sections. The winds were about 35mph avg. The temp. hung around 45 the entire day and it was beautiful. We descended via the Gulfside/Jewell Trail to see the Great Gulf and it was beautiful. I'll definately be making the trip again and I'd like to do the Northern peaks as well because we had bad weather the rest of our stay. It is a wonderful trip and the views are amazing. | ||

| This is a great hike. It also has a great elevation gain for an eastern mountain (about 1300m). The only negative point to this mountain is the Auto Road (too much people on the summit with no effort). | ||

| Glad to see so many are successful climbing this peak. We weren't! There was no wind we'd heard so much about, but everything was glazed in ice and snow. Ice cicles were crashing down all around us and water pouring from the mountain was plentiful. We managed to climb almost to the top of the headwall (great fun) but a cloud that sat on the mountain for days was still there, it wasn't about to move and we couldn't see diddly! I learned that this mountain's view is obscured by clouds 75% of the time while in nearby Jackson. We turned around and opted for warmer activities below. We'll likely be back, hopefully to ascend another route such as Lions Head and descend some other route. Beautiful area! | ||

| Crowded on the bottom, cowded on the top - came across few in between. Notorious weather was nowhere to be found. Sunny and felt like mid-50s at the top with a moderate breeze. Came down Lion Head | ||
