Great follow-up to the SP Gathering in the San Juans. I enjoyed a second day with kilimanjaro1, vanny37, chicagotransplant and kane. I can see why Aaron says this is his favorite CO 14er. Beautiful mountain and fun climb, especially the snow and scramble at the top.

Climbed with chicagotransplant and Kane. Great ridge route. The main gully to the ridge had some soft snow that required a few harder moves than most likely would be required with the gully dry. Top portion of the climb is stellar. Descended standard route.

chicagotransplantSW Ridge ascent, standard route descent  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 22, 2007

SP Gathering "epilogue" peak. Kane, Vanny37 and I headed up the ridge while kilimanjaro1 and jeffrawn headed up the Lavender Col route. Still some snow and ice in gullies used to gain the ridge crest. 3rd class mud, wet rock, loose rock and a few 4th class moves will also be required until it fully melts out. The ridge crest itself is great though!

Also still snow on the upper gully on the standard route (which we descended).

kilimanjaro1Lavender Col and Snow Couloir  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 22, 2007

Did this one the day after the SP gathering. Beautiful weather and a nice fun climb. The upper couloir was still full of snow but was soft enough that we could easily kick step up the couloir. Best summit view I have ever seen. Just incredible! A great weekend in the San Juans.

Awesome early morning snow climb for the whole way up. I wouldn't have climbed it any other way. The views were beautiful as well.

Beautiful day for a hike, even though the snow clouds moved in on us about 2/3 up. We enjoyed the hike anyway. Peak was socked in when we got there, so didn't get to see the view, but hope to go back just for that. Sun was out and shining bright again, about 2/3 down. It's amazing how that works. :o)

Remains my favorite 14ers. Spectacular to look at from the north. Yankee Boy has incredible flowers. The peak has some scrambling and great views into the San Juans

Nothin' like a little bluegrass fest in telluride and then some fun in the mountains. we did some scrambling up the ridge with mostly rock, and some snow, from blue lakes. It took longer to walk down the standard route, that way is thin slippery scree, and I think that the steeper way we came up would be better for the descent as well. great view of surrounding mountains from the top.

Climbed with a friend via Lavender Col. Snow and ice in the couloir made this more difficult--the escape notch near the top of the gully was covered in ice. Lots of fun. Beautiful sunrise in Yankee Boy Basin.

Easier than I thought. It was only tough through the initial gulley. 4 Hours round trip with a good break on the summit. We were in the clouds on top.

Date Climbed: Aug 3, 2006

Climbed with Randy and Sharon Bruenlin and Colin Pence, and also my daughter Shanna, who has wanted to climb this mountain for a long time. She and our friends did very well on this fantastic climb. This was my 10th and final time on Sneffels.

Being the maintainer for the Sneffels routes and main mountain page on SP, I checked over the conditions and updates of the routes and made the necessary amendments here at SP. The 3rd class south ridge is a beautiful, straightforward climb that is hard to get lost on, and certainly one of the most exhillerating routes on a mountain that can be done without ropes. The CFI trail construction on the lower part of the standard route is very well done. Much is left to do in the upper portions below the saddle, which may take years to complete.

Met SP member Skorpeo on the way down the standard route. It's always nice to meet SP folks on the mountain! The weather was absolutely awesome, too. My luck with weather on this mountain is unprecedented. I think it likes me! It did rain a ton during the rest of our trip, though. The San Juan monsoon was in full swing!

I wasn't going to add yet another summit log (I've got two for this mountain already on SP), but this was my tenth and final time on the mountain, and with my daughter as well, so I decided yet another log entry was justified. This was a very special day indeed.

Others I have climbed Sneffels with: Lori Engberg; Vernon Garner; Mark Anderson, Mike Kleopfer; Ron Hall; Amanda Burns; Shirley Scott, Rosa Aguirre; Andrea Radcliffe; Jim Lierman, Paul Kirby, Ellen Ritt; and a family that paid me to take them up the mountain. Thanks to everyone who has climbed this mountain with me! It was an honor and your company was priceless.

And congratulations Shanna! Well done!
