| Climbed this one with a bushwack since the trail was not readily evident. Climbed 1000 feet in the first half mile. Intercepted the miner's trail and took it into the basin. Cut over left, crossed the mine tailings and climbed loose Class 4 terrain to the ridge to get a look at Silver Lake far below. Followed the ridge north around an ominous sink hole (one of three encountered on this climb) and climbed the summit from the northwest. Descended a steep loose couloir on the south (typical San Juan scree ski) to steep (and I mean steep!), loose tundra terrain, then retraced our steps to the miner's trail, which we successfully followed all the way to the car. Fun day, not without traumatic incident! A trip report is pending. Great mountain and impressive view in a remote corner of the San Juans. I'm glad I finally did this one. |
