Yeah, it was awhile ago, but i still remember it as one of my favourite summits. It was my first mountain, and I got to climb it with my sister

A bit chilly, but the views from the summit of the turning leaves below were outstanding. Hope to return for a winter ascent from the south sometime soon.

Good hike and nice views. South Albert sees little traffic and worth the extra 0.5 mile slog

Another state highpoint! There were way too many people on the summit - it was kind of hard to enjoy, but I managed to. Did San Luis Peak and then Wheeler Peak (NM) after Elbert.

Beautiful fall day in the Rockies. Enough snow to test some new gear, but pleasant enough to enjoy the summit. Cody the Dog joined me on the summit. My first big hike in Colorado. Hopefully many more are to come.

I hiked my first 14er with longtime friend Aron in June of 2005. We headed up the second-class route from the southwest. It was a great trip! I highly reccommend it.

Twenty-one years after first seeing Elbert, I finally stood on its summit. I hiked this one with McCannster, on a very pleasant weekend that was full of chilling in the flaming aspen highcountry.

My wife and I were able to bag Elbert and South Elbert this way and had the pleasure of hiking up though aspen groves, mining ruins, christmas trees, bristlecone pines, amazing views on snowy barren ridges... the summit views were expansive; in short, this route was fun AND special. Perhaps this mountain isn't spectacular, like some monster in the Sierra, but it was a lot more intersting than Grays or Torreys for sure.

eighth state highpoint. Fun but nothing special.

The aspen grove at the base is pretty amazing though.

rleclairElbert Revisit  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 14, 2008

I had hiked Mt. Elbert years and years ago when I first moved to Colorado. At that time, a buddy and I backpacked in and spent the night in grassy meadow complete with stogies, bourbon, and dehydrated lasagna.

Years pass and good friends and I decide to visit Elbert again just for a day trip. Conditions were seasonal for mid September and we did have some snow to work through above 12K. All in all, a great day for fall in Colorado!

Shortly after getting above treeline, I was hit with terrible nausea and stomachaches. I'm pretty sure it was due to the weight-loss supplement I'm taking, as opposed to the elevation, as I had two BREs (Bowel-Related Emergencies) on the way to the trailhead. The nausea was problematic as I couldn't take in anything except water.

Just the same, I soldiered on and hit the summit by noon. One of the most rewarding summit views I've experienced!

5th highpoint; 3rd CO 14er.

We left our tent at Elbert Creek Campground at 8am and didn't make the summit until 1:30pm. Perfect weather all day! Via Northeast Ridge.

Easy walkup. On the descent, we passed the entire Carbondale 8th grade class as they were working their way up the mountain.

Saturday before labor day. I did it solo via Mt Elbert tail and met a lot of nice guys on the way up and down. Since 11:30 or so, ice rain and whiteout conditions lasted on and off for 3 hours. Nonetheless I summited and baged this bad boy. Whiteout conditions prevented taking many shots showing the valley down below but nontheless incredible views, great hike and another 14er down!

Strangely enough this one wasn't pressing on my 'list' but Marni wanted to do it. Turbo, Marni and I went up the day after Massive and it was a nice hike on a great trail. I guess it does make a new elevation PR for me as well.
