flearretaRoute Climbed: Traverse Signakuppe-Dufourspitze Date Climbed: August 30, 2004  Sucess!

A long day starting in the Marguerita hut at 8 AM and ending in Zermatt at 7:30 PM. Took us 25 minutes from Marguerita hut to the summit of Zumsteinspitze and then an addtional 3 hours to reach the top of Dufourspitze. A very beautiful ridge traverse. From there, 4 hours down to the Monte Rosa hut and an additional 2.5 hour and two glaciers to the Rotenboden train station. From there a half and hour ride to Zermatt.

Easy walk up. The ridge to the Grenzgipfel is very airy..... (but very nice!!)

I and Jolanda, we decide to celebrate our engagement in the deep blue of the infinitive.

Started at 5am in the morning, we reached the summit in about 3hours.

Fantastic day, but so cold and windy.

Nice hight walking. Very nice day: sunny but very worm.

We started at 4:30 in the morning from Città di Mantova hutte and we arrived at the top of Zumsteinspitze in 2:40. Than we traversed to Signalkuppe, Parrotspitze, Ludvishohe, Corno Nero and back again at the hutte before 12:00.

A long walking for an unforgettable day.

I suggest to try: long but easy. And very spectacular

Rahel Maria LiuRoute Climbed: Monte-Rosa-Treaverse Date Climbed: August 2, 2003  Sucess!

Due to bad conditions on Täschhorn - Dom - Traverse, my friends Anton, Albert and Albrecht returned to Germany, so that we did not try it this year. Instead I called some other friends from the German Alpine Club in Ulm, who just came down from Grand Combin. Within 2 hours we decided to make this traverse, although we all do not like glacier walking, which is the main part of the whole trip, if you want to make the Monte-Rosa-traverse.

Finally, Wolfgang, Andreas, Michael and I climbed this traverse Signalkuppe - Zumsteinspitze - Dufourspitze on a very sunny day and with best rockclimbing conditions. Wolfgang and I climbed without using any rope.

We started the whole trip from Monte-Rosa-Hut, climbed Grenzglacier up to Rif. Magherita and returned to Monte-Rosa-Hut after the traverse. All glaciers had very big crevasses.

Mathias ZehringRoute Climbed: traverse and back Date Climbed: August 1st 2003  Sucess!

3 years ago Zumsteinspitze was the highlight of a week's trip. But this time - after two nights at Cap. Margherita - it was only a markstone on our trip to Dufourspitze. Easy to reach from Col Gnifetti plain. The descent from Zumsteinspitze to Grenzsattel needs caution. Climbing back upwards these 120 m in the afternoon was very exhausting.

We came to Zumsteinspitze at 11 am and stayed there almost one hour (!) to take a lot of pictures. The view was magnificent - the colossal Dufourspitze, Lyskamm, Matterhorn and Mont Blanc in the distance. Never going to forget this.

Great weather, breathtaking summitview (especially down the Monte Rosa east-wall!). This year the crevasses were larger than ever, very exciting to cross them!

Thanks to my partners Sergio and Cristina

Our 6th summit today. We did it only today for the view of the way to the Dufourspitze next day. Next day we traversed the Zumsteinspitze to climb the Dufourspitze. Always excellent weather conditions.

7summitsRoute Climbed: Normal (from Gnifetti Peak) Date Climbed: 29-6-2001  Sucess!

Nice ridge walk with a few rocks at the end. Great view of Liskamm, Dufourspitze, Italy and Switzerland!

We descended to the col (nice climbing!) and went back up, too much loose snow for Dufour from this side.

Best regards,

Harry
