Great hike from Midgely Bridge. Went to the summit and both north and south overlooks. Then a late afternoon thundershower chased us down the mountain.

This pleasant hike was on the last day of the "Youth in Asia" tour with my good friends DB, CP, and Hugh de Q.

Apparently, there was a summit register, placed by juh33, well before the 2006 fire. The current register appears to date from 2006.

My wife and I hiked up here in November 2000 (I think).

Hiked up to the north and south viewpoints a few times, but looking back, I don't think I ever actually got to the true summit. My old guidebook (pre-topozone, national geo topo days) listed the summit at 7045'. I hiked up to the small 7045 hill, but it wasn't until recently that I paid closer attention and realized that there is a 7122' point on the east rim. Thanks for the pics brianhughes! Gotta go back now, not complaining...it is a great hike.

Oh, and I recommend the route from Encinoso picnic area. A shady canyon, and nice old growth.

May 1994. Took a friend up his first mountain here, up South trail. He did not believe in the need for sun screen ...yet. But a beautiful intro to hiking for him and Sedona red rock country for both of us. Later hike into Oak Creek canyon also a high point. Had to hike alone as my friend recovered from sun burn and heartburn from spicy food consumed after the climb.

We backpacked on the mountain for two days with our dog just for the fun of it. Great vistas and good times. Photos are here: Mount Wilson backpack

surgentAstounding, yet sad...  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 10, 2006

My wife and I hiked to the long summit plateau, south to the Sedona overlooks, then north to the north edge and an unreal panorama of humphreys Peak and the Coconino Plateau. I made a short side-hike to the 'summit' of the peak, a small side hill near the south-east edge. Amazing all-day hike... then a week later the Brins Fire obliterated everything. We feel fortunate to have seen the mountain and forest before being burned out; it'll take years for this area to recover. All part of the regeneration cycle, but still, very sad. We had a very personal, emotional connection to the mountain - made only moreso sad by the ensuing fire.

Nice hike with good views of a beautiful area. Hiked it with my wife and in-laws. Unfortunately, a golf course visible from top spoils the summit view a bit.

This is a great hike. I do it a bunch. Just make sure you bring enough water. Many people have run into hydration problems.

This is a beautiful hike in red rock country. The best time to go in my opinion is in October when the leaves change in Oak Creek Canyon. It's a great workout hike and I use it as a warm up for the Grand Canyon. The incredible view of Sedona and surrounding area from the top is the ultimate reward for reaching the top. If you go, I suggest the North Wilson trail instead of the main trail at Midgley Bridge. The N. Wilson Trail offers some shade and beautiful pines, not to mention it's a little shorter and a little more challenging.

Came in by way of the Secret Mountain Wilderness thru Sterling Pass. There more shade on the North Trail and less folks. You can’t see Tennessee from here, but has a “rocky top”. There’s no Griz, but it’s a dazzling panorama and should not be hiked by people inclined to vertigo. Happy Birthday Dad!

Just hiked to the summit. No snow on the trail. Great hike with fantastic views. Make sure to go to both overlooks. The southern overlook is unbelievable.

Jay & I took a break from winter in Colorado in May of 1990 and camped out near Sedona. This was one of the many hikes we took during that time. Beautiful country with spectacular views!! I might suggest going a bit earlier as it was already very hot at this time in May.

Steven CrossRoute Climbed: Wilson Mountain Trail Date Climbed: sometime in the '90's  Sucess!

I hiked this mountain years ago in the winter. There was snow close to 6,000 feet. The snowmelt made it a very muddy climb. The trail had water pouring down it. Near the top the snow was about a foot deep. The View was increadible. I did not realize at the time that I was on a mountain, I thought it was part of the Colorado plateau. The top is so big you have to walk about a mile to reach the other side of the mountain. You cannot see the otherside becouse of the forest. After seeing it on a topo map I saw that it is an actual mountain, not just a hike to a knoll on the Colorado Plateau. From the top of the mountain the peak looks like a little 100 foot knoll. looking at it from the bottom it looks like its part of the Colorado Plateau as well. I did not realize it's flanked by cliffs on all sides.
