Date Climbed: Oct 17, 2009

Ascended Jones first than continued the loop to PT 13712, Tabeguache, Shavano and "Esprit Point". Some fun easy scrambling between Jones and PT 13712. Surprising dry in this part of the Sawatch still despite recent snows in the state, although the summit pitch on Tab was a little snowier than the rest of the peaks. Second time up Tabeguache.

argothorTabeguache via Blanks Gulch Trailhead  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 9, 2009

A few years ago I hiked up Shavano with the idea of doing Tabeguache as well, but didn't make it because I was tired and the weather started to look a little iffy. But this time the weather was perfect, except for the gale force winds in the saddles. I left Denver around 3, got to the trailhead and started hiking at 5:45, summited both peaks (Shavano twice) and was on the road back to Denver by 3. Long day, but worth it.

After missing out on Tabeguache the first time I hiked up Shavano in 2007, I lucked out with the weather on a beautiful July bluebird day and was able to make the summit of Tab after an hour long traverse from Shav. Glad to have this one over and done.

Did the Angel of Shavano Snow climb. Still some snow left. Traversed to Tab. And came back down over Shavano and then glissaded down to avoid the storms. It's quite a good workout.

Date Climbed: Sep 13, 2008

Climbed via the new Jennings Creek Valley to West Ridge Route with the Usual Suspects and MA. This climb marked Ellen's final fourteener ascent. She's done them all! Now we can get on with our lives. This is a great route, infinitely preferable to the other choices. It's much more interesting and beautiful! Tab's true character is found on this route: Great spectacle, Class 2 and 3 climbing, fun ridge walk and awesome views!

ROUTE DESCRIPTION EXCLUSIVE TO SP

TRIP REPORT ON THE NEW ROUTE

I climbed Tabeguache twice before via the old Jennings Creek route (now closed). The first time, with Shavano, we got clobbered by an incredible storm. The second time, in late September ten years later, two feet of snow had fallen on the mountain. This made the usually fun scrambling along the summit ridge, shall we say, interesting. Made for great pictures, though! Tab is one of my favorite 14ers. We climbed Shavano two days later in glorious fall conditions up the Angel drainage from Blank Gulch.

mtnhiker13My final 14er!  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 13, 2008

Tab is a great mountain as a final 14er. Was joined by 6 friends and favorite climbing partner, my husband Aaron on this last 14er. We climbed the West Ridge from Jennings Creek valley. We had a bluebird day - not a cloud in the sky - and virtually no wind. It couldn't have been a more perfect day. We celebrated on top with champaign and brownies!! Thanks Randy, Sharon, Kane, Barbara, Mark, Cheryl and Aaron for joining me.

Date Climbed: Aug 8, 2008

Traversed from Shavano, then dropped down the steep and horrendous North face, DO NOT do this. Better to head back to the Tab/Shav saddle and drop from there.

Started up Shavano trail, traversed at 11,950' to Shavano Lake. Then up to the head of the valley with a few easy Class 3 moves to avoid rotten snow. Descended via Shavano trail. Herd of bighorn sheep and a few ptarmigan above the lake.

Climbed up Tabegauche after ascending Shavano's angel. I enjoyed climbing Tabegauche's snowy ridge much more than ascending the Angel of Shavano.
