| This is the mountain that inspired me to climb and be out doors more. Did it alone in great conditions compared to others that have posted (although it was a bit overcast). | ||

| My fiance and I summitted Marcy one fall day after heavy rains moved out. We were the only ones up there as the winds battered us. This is an amazing area! | ||

| Climbed Mt. Marcy with my new HOT girlfriend, we planned to arrive on the summit at dark to enjoy a romantic sunset. But I forgot to bring headlamps for the descent. It was a dark, overcast, moonless night and it took 6 hours to descend. In the morning we were covered with bruises and she dumped me. (: | ||

| PhenomenalWoman | Hardest Thing I've Done To Date! ![]() Date Climbed: May 15, 2009 | |
| Set out on a sunny morning hoping for a relatively easy climb. We were warned there would still be snow at the top, but we were not prepared for what we encountered! We took a wrong turn and ended up on a ski trail that added at least an hour. Reached Indian Falls around noon to a breathtaking view of Algonquin. Trail to the top and back down through Tear of the Clouds was covered in 4 ft of snow and ice, making the already difficult trail nearly impassable in places. Elated, we reached the summit around 3pm but worried we would not make it to the leanto on the Mt Colden side before dark. Exhausted, we finally made it right as the sun was setting. Hardest hike I've done yet, but the feeling of accomplishment was worth every step. :) Climbed with Eleutheros | ||

| osatrik | My first solo SHP - # 22 ![]() Date Climbed: Jul 9, 1987 | |
| Nearing the end of the second year of my highpoint quest with my oldest daughter Vanessa. Unfortunately she was suffering from an asthma attack when our family vacationed in the Adirondacks, so I did this SHP alone. Hiked Marcy Dam to Avalanche Pass to Lake Coldenn, Opalescent Creek to Feldspar Leanto where I spent a wonderful night singing Beatles songs with the other campers. Came down from the summit via the Van Hoevenberg Tail past Indian Falls. I was sad for Vanessa, who eventually got to 39 state highpoints. I recently visited my 49th and final SHP, having no intent to do Denali. | ||

| got a late start--did this and table top quickly, but had to bypass phelps so i could catch the last ferry back to vermont. very muddy and crowded; probably much more enjoyable during the non-summer months. | ||

| Eleutheros | Dangerous Melting Snowdrifts ![]() Date Climbed: May 15, 2009 | |
| Climbed the blue trail through Indian Falls and descended the yellow trail through Tear of the Clouds Lake. Both sides were drenched in feet of mud, torrential runoff and dangerously weak snowdrifts that made this trip slow, dangerous and challenging - much more than expected for a peak this size! The Adirondacks in May can be nothing short of WILD. | ||

| friday | Scary fall during icy conditions ![]() Date Climbed: Mar 14, 2009 | |
| Great day of weather. Not a cloud in the sky with views as far as Mt Washington from Marcy's summit. The summit was very icy due to ice storms a few days earlier. Winds were strong, but not intolerable. I fell. On my descent, right after the summit top, my snowshoes slipped, causing me to slide down the ice in a northerly direction from the trail towards the steeper northern slope. I was flipped over after hitting a rock (or a tree, dont quite remember) and became airborne for a few feet (from what others said. I don't remember this either). After sliding at a very quick rate for 15 seconds or so, attempting to grab anything I could to stop my fall, I ended up being miraculously stopped by a small, ice covered tree. If I slid any further, I would not be typing this now. I want to thank the hiker who came to me right after I stopped and helped me get back up on my feet. He also helped me find a glove that had slipped off during the fall and he found a ski pole of mine. And, thanks for the motrin, it really helped. I owe you a million. | ||
