The distance between Redcloud and Sunshine is mellow and easy hiking. This areas reddish gold soil was very unique to what I'm used to seeing closer to Denver. This climb was great but my trip through Lake City was a real dissapointment...nothing to do there so I just hung at my camp and consumed beer :)

A delightfil, simple walk from Redcloud. I shared a cup of tea with one individual at the summit. Just the two of us for awhile then he left. I stayed for awhile.

A very good day.

Great traverse between Redcloud to Sunshine with just enough snow and ice to make it fun!

Jathan Cantu and Todd Schauer reached the summit of Sunshine Peak at 12:15 pm after descending from Redcloud our first fourteener!! The weather was overcast with intermittent sun and light rain most of the day. As we downclimbed through the talus field via South Fork Valley the sun and moisture made for a beautiful rainbow across the head of the valley looking down from Sunshine Peak. Another interesting scene was seeing the South Fork stream seemingly come out of nowhere from the side of a steep talus slope. You would think we were on another planet surrounded by the jagged cliffs and red peaks. Next stop...Handies Peak!

I hit Sunshine on my way from Sundog to Redcloud. It took me a little over three hours from trailhead over Sundog to Sunshine.

1000PksRoute Climbed: Trail Date Climbed: July 22, 2005  Sucess!

50 minutes over from Red Cloud. Good class 1 trail, I'd say. About an hour back to Red Cloud. Beautiful weather, but I was early to start. Dark clouds, then thunder heard by about 3 p.m. Register on both peaks needs larger container and book. Who puts up these small pipes?
