geoseanI Love this Hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 15, 2008

This was my second attempt on Tomyhoi, the first one to be successful; I love the approach to the climb, although long it is so beautiful with varied scenery. The climb was great, although I should have stayed lower on the E side talus, aiming for the semi-saddle on the NE ridge.

Great day hike. I loved the scrambling at the end.

This place is awesome, good scrambling at the end.

I forgot how awesome the views are on this one. Steve, Sarah, and I saw ptarmigan, marmot and bear. This was Sarah's second hike and to my surprise she had bad altitude sickness by the time we got to the false summit. Here is a 360 degree panorama that turned out nice.

Most of the snow was gone, other than the odd patch we had to cross. The wildflowers were in full bloom. The crux of the climb turned out to be much easier than it looked from afar. Here are some pictures: http://www.summitpost.org/album/425649/Tomyhoi-Peak-Photos.html

Sweet little summit scramble. Looks completely improbable from afar but offers several reasonable options. Great views to keep you motivated during the long approach and descent.

Long approach into a very scenic area. I bailed on the climb at the false summit, but watched my climbing partner climb the true summit. Looked gnarly from my view, but I guess it wasn't too bad. I just wasn't feeling up for the scramble that day. The Mt. Baker area is spectacular. Lots of snow up there still.

Date Climbed: Oct 14, 2006

A long day for Greg and I. Many nice fall colors and few ripe blueberries left. We tried to follow the ridge top from the false summit up but decided it was too risky. Didn't know at the time that there is an easier option.

Nice trail with lots of beautiful fall colors, to bad I couldn't see sh*t with all the cloud cover! Still, it was fun.

Sadly, fog obscurred views from the summit. A very fun scramble!

My first trip to this area. I fell in love with Shuksan as I believe many do. Beautiful basin and peaks abound.

Got together with Alexei (Magellan on SP) to do this one. Great views, mainly a photography run. Enjoy!

Helped take 9 teens to the top. Thankfully our long day was blessed with ideal weather. Word to the wise: hang onto your pack at the col after the glacier traverse! July is mosquito season... bring repellent! Wonderful approach hike with spectacular views!

DuseksRoute Climbed: Yellow Aster Butte Date Climbed: May 25th 2005  Sucess!

This climb got a little sketchy, a large cornice broke behind me and my partner (though we never walked on it). Lot's of snow left, as well as a bit of avalanche danger. Had my doubts a few times but great climb overall. Would be easy in summer.

Not much actual "climbing" or scrambling on this route, but nevertheless a great objective... the hike in is beautiful with a lot of time above treeline and with views of the North Cascades. The last part of the hike is a great ridge run and the summit is nice and airy with great views of the North Cascades and Frasier Valley. The summit block looks nasty when viewed from the false summit but turns out to be quite easy Class 3 scrambling once you get to the saddle between the false and true summits.

Great views. I left my camera up there and wonder who found it, people, goats, yeti?

A very senic scramble in the spectacular Nooksack area. This trip is much more enjoyable as a mellow backpack trip, than a rushed daytrip. We had a senic and lonesome camp on the ridgetop meadows above the tarns, where everyone else camps. A snowmelt stream provided water. Mt. Rainier was even visible from our high camp. The summit block scramble is steep and exposed for the first 80 - 100 ft. , but with solid rock and lots of good holds.

Enjoyable climb on a good trail with some fun rock at the top! We set up camp at the tarns, then scrambled up Yellow Aster Butte on Saturday. Sunday was sunny and clear for the trip up Tomyhoi. Great views all the way up to the summit, from the coastal range in BC to Baker, Shuksan, and countless other North Cascade Peaks. Very nice end-of-summer climb.
