| Quite a steep ascent, but all good. A nice trail, on a nice day. Slightly bummed that the angel was melted out already due to the hot weather. Blank Gulch TH has been improved lately, so probably for that reason is a lower start in elevation than in the GR book. Be prepared for close to 6,000 vert for the Shavano/Tab combo! | |

| Started out at 6:30 a.m. with the plan of bagging Tabeguache as well, but storms started to move in at 10 a.m. I was glad I turned around at the Shavano summit since the heavens opened up with a heavy rain and lots of T & L once I was below treeline. | |

| When we began the mountains were covered by clouds. We broke out the Shavano saddle to look over a white world pierced only by high mountain peaks. What a sight! By the time we reached the Shavano summit, all the couds had burned off for a great view in all directions. | |

| Summited a sluggish 4 and a half hours after leaving my car. Found my second wind on the ridge to Tabeguache. Saw a male mountain goat crossing the "angel of shavano" route. The angel is disappearing fast and I avoided it. I wish I hadnt! Several climbers got up it without post-holing. Beautiful weather and little snow. The summit was crawling with marmots..watch your food. | |
