With Rick Kent, Daniel Torres, and his bud Steven. Descended to Meysan Lake and was able to borrow a car to get back to the "trailhead". Magnificent snow climb. A definite classic.
North Face Up North West Slope Down Date Climbed: Sep 6, 2009
Climbed with Branch Whitney from North Face. Lots of Class 3-4 scramble. Took more than 6.5 hours to the peak since there was one scramble newbie in the group. This route was fun route if you love scramble hike with exposure.
I camped for several nights at Meysan Lake and did this on my second day of climbing from there. I used the NW Chute and stayed on the rock as much as possible trying to avoid scree. I tried to tag the unnamed point to the west, but failed when I cliffed out. I love this peak. The views are great and its a fantastic summit to sit on and soak in the area.
Dave McLaughlin and I climbed up out of the upper North Fork of Tuttle Creek canyon. This turned out to be a drier and safer alternative to Mt. LeConte which had been our main objective. The hardest part is slogging up Tuttle Creek canyon above the Stonehouse. Ugh! The view probably made it worth the effort.
Climbed as a day hike from Whitney Portal campground. The slog up the scree of the NW slope was a pain, but the stunning views from the summit made it all worthwhile.
Hiked up solo from our camp near Grass Lake - hit the summit at 9am with beautiful weather. The left hand side of the chute is decent - but I use that term loosely.
Dayhike. Jason hiked up with me to Grass lake to fish while I went solo up the slope and to the summit. Staying left on the way up keeps you out of the loose stuff. Coming down was a fun "ski".
3 day climb. camped at 10,500. super tough route finding. spring conditions with a grueling mix of sand, scree, rock, snow, ice and bushwhacking. awesome all in all. www.tinyurl.com/lonepine
Very windy and cold. On the summit it was hard to stand up. Had to hide in the rocks. I think it was the second storm of the season. This combination of wind and cold made the scree easy hike in a round-trip time of 3 hours, from below Grass Lake.
...if you love it, climb this peak!! Took enough down in my boots to start my own mountain.
The views off the top make the slog worth it.
Oh yeah climbed the NW Slope
