SarahThompsonMy 400th 13er!  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 27, 2008

Backpacked to Cataract Lake and climbed UN 13164 and then Half Peak via its south ridge. Half Peak was my 400th ranked Colorado 13er. Only 184 more to go! We reached the summit at around 10:30, heard a distant grumbling of thunder, and chose not to stay and celebrate with the wine we'd brought because of the impending weather. Descended the northeast ridge. As soon as we began the descent, my hair was standing up and I could feel little electrical shocks on my body. We practically RAN down the initial 3rd class part of the ridge and hauled a$$ back to camp (where we of course drank that wine)!

A memorable trip as I did a face plant in the talus on the way back to the trailhead. What a bloody mess but managed to hike the 4 miles back to the car and then a trip to Lake City emergency center - nice people in the medical center - dr was awesome - got me in quick and did the xray - luckily no broken bones just swelling and black and blue!!

seth@LOKIFirst on register this year in June?  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 17, 2007

Wow. I hoped to get after some other 13ers in the area but we used a different approach. Nice views of the North Face up the North East Ridge Route. Just a few feet of 3/4 the class scrambling involved.

Date Climbed: Oct 7, 2006

Climbed with shanahan96 via Cuba Gulch with a stop on PT 13164 on the way down. Really nice basin, gorgeous views of the backside of the Handies/Jones group the whole way up. We even saw a bear running through the willows. This turned out to be a very appropriately named peak for me, it was my 50th out of the highest hundred, halfway there!

shanahan96south ridge from cuba gulch  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 7, 2006

the hike up cuba gulch was gorgeous; this is a must see place! the willow whacking at treeline was horrid, but we survived. finally, the final ridge to the summit plateau is downright hairy, to the say the least, when covered by a couple feet of snow and with the wind howling at the most exposed section.

oh yeah, we got point 13,164 for dessert.

Aaron JohnsonNortheast Ridge  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 17, 2006

We finally managed to climb this one after years of being put off by the weather. We had a fabulous and solitary day, not without excitement and incident. This is a great mountain with a surprisingly far reaching view. We could see the West Elks, buried in fresh white snow, and most of the San Juans had snow on them as well. The route was fun and challenging, not for those squeamish about scrambling on loose San Juan rock, but we sure enjoyed it! Half Peak was 100% wonderful!

Great hike. The final ridge was exciting and the summit is very unique.

Ryan KowalskiRoute Climbed: Cataract Gulch via a South Ridge variation  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 3, 2006

A long and wet hike in after early morning showers. I then managed to really screw-up route finding and taking a seriously loose variation to gain the south ridge. Stunningly gorgeous area, although the highlight for me was the small PT 13,164 to the west, where I got a real feeling of solitude. I'll be back to this area!

AsphazellRoute Climbed: Cuba Gulch/Southwest Slopes Date Climbed: September 2, 2005  Sucess!

My first solo climb since I was about 18. Very sketchy weather, waited out a rainshower at about 11,900ft. Made it to the ridge at roughly 12,700 where it started snowing quite heavily. Layered up and took the ridge to the last section of the climb, about 150ft of class III with some class IV moves to make the summit block. Waited for the snow to stop and then went for it. Extremely rewarding summit, fantastic views of the San Juans. Only one on the mountain that day (that I saw!).

This is one of my favorite summits of all time. The final summit ride is an incandescent ridgewalk across a floating skyway. Highly recomended. Climbed with Raymond dog at the end of a four mountains in three days type weekend.

I attempted this mountain when i was about 15. I did not make it to the peak. The climb got a little scary looking so I did not want to continue. This was the first mountain in colorado i attempted. We made it a 3 day backpacking trip. The first day up Cuba gulch, camped at 12,000 feet. The next day hiked half peak, then camped in Cataract Gulch. The last day down Cateract Gulch back to the vehicle.
