Climbed with Cliff via the Uphill Brook Trail from Tahawus. Herd path is in decent shape; not nearly as bad as Cliff. Had a well-deserved snack on the summit. Had good views looking South as well.

Beautiful views, great weather. Bugs were not too bad. Uphill Brook was roaring with all the recent rain. Enjoyed lunch at the falls after summiting. Hit Cliff on the way out. Big loop through both Arnold and Avalanche Pass by way of ADK Loj.

Hiked with Paul and had to break trail from just past Lake Colden, all the way to the summit of Redfield. Exhausting! And, we still had to get to Cliff! Long and tiring day, but we made it to both. This peak marked #24/46. : )

Bushwhacked off the trail downstream from Lake Tear. Tough trek back in the day. Lots of spruce thickets. Sounds like there have been some significant improvements in recent years.

In all, Redfield's a nice walk. Little blowdown, no false summits, water on the way. Go for Cliff first, then tackle this guy.

Clearly marked and easy to follow with the 46er improvements. Nice easy hike.

Followed a very flagged path (flags die out after 100 yards or so) and then packed trail to the top of Redfield. Annoying as hell in some places! I always seem to get hit in the face with the branches when it gets tight and on this mountain it gets REAL tight. Good luck.

WhiteLiefRoute Climbed: From Uphill Brook Lean-To Date Climbed: February 17, 2004  Sucess!

We took the multi-day approach to Redfield, though most people are climbing this as a day trip from ADK Loj or Upper Works. We camped at Lake Arnold.

Following a nicely packed snowshoe trail, this was a straightforward climb to the top. Deep snow meant ducking here and there, but the trail was easy to follow. (See my comments on the route in the "Getting There" section.)

Climb this mountain in the winter! No blowdown tangles at all.

Finally, the views are fantastic from the approach and from the summit.

“I wouldn’t take my worst enemy here.”—Daniel Battin, August 4, 2002

Now what could possibly cause me to utter these words? Climbing Redfield and Cliff Mtns; that’s what! These mountains had more blowdown than any other mountains that I climbed. My hip muscles even cramped up a little bit. I had never had that happen before. These two mountains pushed me to near exhaustion. There were times when I did not think I would succeed. There were also times when my feet did not touch the ground for many minutes due to the massive blowdown.
