Climbed with Redfield via Uphill Brook Trail from Tahawus. The herd path from the Uphill Brook Lean-to was murder. The path is covered with blowdown for almost the whole way. I imagine in winter you might be able to get above the blowdown but not in October! Even the sign at the top was busted. Not much in the way of views either. Oh well.

Went out for a long day from ADK Log through Arnold Pass on the way to the peaks and back through Avalanche Pass on the way out. Beautiful weather. Views from Cliff aren't half bad. The herds path is easy to find and the new re-route around the swampiness at the beginning of the Twin Brook Trail is nice.

Hit Cliff after Redfield. Fortunately, Cliff had been broken so we had a decent path up the mountain. Steep sections! Exhausting day hike to do both Redfield and Cliff with the amount of fresh snow on the trail but we did it. #25/46! : )

Thank heck for whomever assisted in partially clearing Floyd's blowdown. It would have been ruthless without it.

Good winter challenge. The temps were in the 40's so it made for slushy snow; hard to get a grip in, even with snowshoes. But, it was all-in-all a good time; certainly didn't think it was deserving of a "wouldn't bring my worst enemy here" comment, but to each his own I guess.

A great winter route, with incredible views. Pretty cold though for trying to sleep in a lean-to.

“I wouldn’t take my worst enemy here.”—Daniel Battin, August 4, 2002

Now what could possibly cause me to utter these words? Climbing Redfield and Cliff Mtns; that’s what! These mountains had more blowdown than any other mountains that I climbed. My hip muscles even cramped up a little bit. I had never had that happen before. These two mountains pushed me to near exhaustion. There were times when I did not think I would succeed. There were also times when my feet did not touch the ground for many minutes due to the massive blowdown.
