| WickedRugged | Manuel Peak Trail ![]() Date Climbed: Mar 4, 2007 | |
| Began at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and took the Manuel Peak trail all the way to the top. It was a perfect day, sunny and temperatures in the low 70's. The views along the exposed trail were amazing, including a great view of the Pacific at the top and Ventana Double Cone along the way. The trail is in poor condition in many places, with a number of downed trees on the wooded segments. It is a tough hike because the first half is all uphill, no flat spots and certainly no decents. One of my favorite things about this hike is that you can see the exposed trail in the distance as you are hiking, which is pretty unique. Definitely worth it! | ||

| edevart | Rain and Flowers ![]() Date Climbed: Apr 15, 2007 | |
| Began at Pfeiffer Burns in a torrential downpour that chased most hikers off the trails. After an hour the rain had stopped and the sun was out. Magnificent colors and wildflowers. A great hike. | ||

| Hit the trail pretty early with Paul Danielson. As we were coming up the switchbacks, the sun rose over pine ridge and it turned out to be a gorgeous day. See trip report for route beyond Manuel Peak. | ||

| nikolai | land of fog and rain ![]() Date Climbed: Dec 31, 2004 | |
| It was foggy and raining the whole time. The visibility at the top (did I even make it?) was probably around 20 feet. I hiked a long way and got to a spot where I felt I couldn't go any higher and I couldn't find any more trail, so I'm checking the "were you sucessful?" box. | ||

| Hiked with Maria. The trail seemed quite long an non-direct. We did see some condors in flight however which made it very worth the suffering in extreme heat that day. The summit ridge has very nice views of the ocean. | ||

| This trail is pretty overgrown beginning about 2000 ft elevation to the summit. I spent a lot of time bent over and working my way through the brush. There were a lot of flies this time of year as well. It was a great work out to ensure I was prepared to climb Junipero Serra the following week. The weather was perfect, partly cloudy and temps around 70. There are great views much of the way as well. I was impressed with the views inland toward the Vantana Wilderness Area. | ||

| Manuel Peak is one of those peaks where at the end of the day, I knew I'd climbed it, but I couldn't tell you for sure where/when it was! All I know is it was one of the little bumps we climbed along the ridge. The hike via Post Summit was very pleasant; perfect weather and abundant wildflowers made for a highly enjoyable day. | ||

| Climbed with Matthew. A fine day for hiking, but the Mt. Manuel Trail leaves much to be desired. It is in badly deteriorating condition, which much poison oak to keep one on one's toes. Our original goal was to attempt cross-country from Mt. Manuel to either Kandlebiner, or if we were really good, all the way to Ventana Double Cone. That turned out to be something close to insanity. The brush is much too brutal. We had a hard enough time trying to stay on the so-called trail. We traversed north from Mt. Manuel to Post Summit along the Cabezo Prieto ridge, then down via another much more pleasant route I later found is called the East Molera Trail. We ran into two hikers that we talked into reversing our route so we could use their car to drive the 6mi back to ours. Amazing how things work out sometimes... About 12.5mi according to Tom Hopkins, took us about 7 1/4hrs. Trip Report | ||

| Clouds and rain, clouds and rain make for a very nice hike, but not for good photos :-P Didn't see a single person on the trail but saw many down at the trailhead and at the restaurant / giftshop. | ||
