TLPnice saturday, but crowded  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 18, 2008

It was a nice day, so I went to Bear Mountain after working all night. I liked the mountain in the fall scenery, but man it was too crowded on the summit, and the park. Total rip-off to park there. I would never go again there on a weekend during the fall, summer, or spring. Go there in the winter on a weekday.

Date Climbed: Dec 12, 2001

Perfect day hike ex-New York City. Hiked in the snow and only saw four other people on the trail. Perfect weather and visibility.

silversummitDid this in 69, 70 and 71 ...

Backpacked on AT over this and ran out of water with our group going through here during a blazing hot July. Don't remember much except this and the crowds!

Hiked up here twice in 2004 and 2005 by different routes. It's ok.

ParenteauFun hike  Sucess!

Haven't been there in years, but always had more fun just going for the top not using the trails.

EastcoastMikeGood hike/run  Sucess!

I like running the AT, however the other trail has better opportunity for a little scramble.

alexGreat place to run  Sucess!

Going over and descending Bear Mountain is usually the highlight of any run on the Harriman/Bear Mountain trails. Excellent trails with fewer crowds during the winter.

Big Skies 808Training for the AT  Sucess!

A nice hike. The training wasn't good enough because I got my ass kicked in Maine and peaced off the trail.

One of my first NY peaks. We decided to do it on a freezing day and had a good trip. I have some photos that I am uploading as well. Did Major Welch trail and Schunnemunk Mountain in the same day, makes for a nice day.

About an hour hike. Heavy day use at the bottom. Cars at the top as well. But in between there are some spots with fantastic views.

The parking lot at the top detracts from the mystique, but Bear Mtn is a great spot.

I mistakingly thought Anthony's Nose was Bear Mountain when I first signed this summit log. I don't think I ever made it up this peak but did want to mention all the fun I had going on different hikes with the Appalachian Mountain Club. Fun, social, and as hard and fast as you could want them to be. For my last hike with them before I moved here, I carried a whole watermelon which we consumed midway, on a hot summer day... mmm, mmm good.

Another great hike I did was the first 20 miles of the Long Path from the GWB. Hellacious mosquitos, but neat historical sites along the way, like old missile silos...

I miss that hot and muggy weather (seriously) and all the thick culture and history of the area.

Long uphill climb from the Bear Mountain Bridge. Nice views from the top, however and you can see Manhattan clearly on the horizon. Onward to Fingerboard Shelter.
