| Found a spot to park about 3/4 of a mile short of the summit and rode the rest of the way up. Great views of the caldera and lakes. Don't expect solitude on a nice sunny late summer day. Probably 50+ people on top. Still a nice end to a great 4 day trip. | ||

| Date is a bit of a guess. I was staying at the Paulina Lodge, while working on a scientific drilling project. Wife and I walked to the top. | ||

| I cheated, but the parents were in town. A great view of the lava flows, lakes and across the valley to the Sisters. A very unique place. | ||

| I had originally planned a climb of broken top mountain but the three sisters were closed due to forest fires. I had never visited newberry crater. It was time to give the park it"s due. I had driven most of the morning and Paulina peak does have a road to the summit. I parked at the trailhead for the peak down on the main park road and hiked the approximatly three miles to the summit. A good aerobic workout with summits to scramble to on the north side of the peak. I proceeded over to where people drive there cars and mingled with other tourists. I found that thr restrooms on top of Paulina peak are the highest public restrooms in Oregon. The views of the caldera and cascades to the west are awesome. I really enjoyed my visit. | ||

| Why hike when you can drive. Best way to get my wife to see the views. Besides, there are plenty of other peaks around to inflict suffering upon myself. Beautiful views of Paulina Lake and East Lake as well as the Big Obsidian Flow. | ||

| Long day drive from Everett, WA, to Central Valley, CA, via U.S. 97. 864 miles with this peak enroute as a drive-up. A bit of rain in this area, while driving. | ||

| I visited this peak with my 8-year old daughter Jackie. We found the benchmark on the peak and got some good photos. Others in our group didn't make the effort to come up from the parking lot. We got a good view of East Lake and the obsidian flow that we had explored earlier on foot. Newberry Crater is a National Monument worth visiting. | ||

| Another great hike with Cornvallis, see post below. Really awesome views. We made our way to the peak east of the true summit for some time away from the crowds, then hiked over, found all the people and tagged the summit. | ||

| This was a fun, easy hike. The views were great, lots of photo ops. I went with a bunch of friends who were ill-prepared and suffered on the short trip. A few turned back, grabbed the cars and drove to the top. This peak would have meant more if there wasn't a parking lot at the top. | ||

| Probably the best panoramic view of the Oregon Cascades anywhere. Adams to Shasta. Scrambled up a sub peak to the west to get away from the people/cars and enjoy the views. | ||

| I hit snow about 3/4 mile up the trail and then at the mile mark it was steady, which means I postholed a lot. It took me longer to get to the top, thanks to the postholing in the snow but it was a good workout. I elected to walk back down the road as it was snow free after about a half mile from the summit. I had a neat deer encounter with a doe and her two fawns. Seeing me the doe charged away up the hill but the two fawns elected not to follow her and charged up the road towards me, coming within three or four feet before they veered away. Too bad I didn't have my video on but I did snap a couple digital pics. | ||

| Ok, I'll take the trail next time! Honest, I didn't know that there was a trail until I saw this page up. I think this is the highest road in Oregon that a regular car can travel! | ||

| I did this hike after spending the first part of the day at Crater Lake, making for a pretty volcanic day. The views in the crater were quite fascinating. I could also see from Shasta to Jefferson. I camped on the north east shore of Paulina Lake and slept very well after this long day. I would like to go back and check out the rest of the volcanic monument more thoroughly, when I have more time to spare. | ||

| Hiked up from the normal trailhead on 8/27 and from Paulina Lake on 8/28. I scrambled up a neat third class pinnacle next to the trail part way up -- it had horribly rotten rock. Good views of snow deposited by an August storm in the Cascades. | ||
